The River Speaks

I heard the river speaking
I give to all a drink
The deer, the elk, the moose, the bear
To creatures great and small.

I heard the river saying
As it journeyed on its path
To thecardinal and the blue jay
I give a refreshing bath.

I heard the trees rejoicing
Standing tall upon the bank
To the water and its nutrients
We give a hardy thanks.

I gazed at my reflection
As it shimmered in the river
Then dropped my feet into the water
And I began to shiver..
