I can't remember
how I came to be here
gray, cold and alone
full of deep fear

I don't understand
this small, hard gray cage
the noises and lights
scents of sadness and rage

I saw you and wondered
at your intent stare
they took me to meet you
you stroked my soft hair

I didn't know how
to come out of the gray
but you understood
you chose me that day

I can't remember
anything before this
warmth, comfort and love
I'm home, such bliss

I can't speak but I can
look deep in your eyes
purr softly and show you
repayment in disguise
