This is a working draft --- just a few words about my cats. |
My four street-wise, strays have taught me a few things. Fur-fur is a female calico Persian who coyly feigns timidity, yet will actually reach up the door with her paws to get my attention. She often runs to the door when I open it yet barely tolerates petting. Stinker, the alpha male, is black with white markings. He is quite the precocious one, courageously stalking, then playfully pouncing on the others, reaffirming his leadership most admirably. Sir is most regal in appearance and stature, a coal black short-hair with a little white diamond on his chest --- yet cowardly he is ever watchful of Goober. His meow is so soft you can barely hear him. Goober is a grey, tiger-striped tabby cat, who seems to enjoy intimidating Sir --- because he can. He is also most vocal. When he first came around, he was fearful of the others, preferring my company. When Goober acts out against Sir, Stinker takes charge by challenging him --- punishment for bad behavior --- while at the same time demonstrating protection. Goober always backs down from Stinker. Fur-Fur, displaying the typical attributes of a female, favors the courageous, precocious, honorable Stinker. Stinker always courageous, commands respect from the others; contrariwise, Sir showing fear is daily challenged and intimidated by Goober. ---------------------------------- The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion. --Proverbs 28:1 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of, them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. --Deuteronomy 31:6 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment.
