I thought I'd try and make is a little like Edgar Allen Poe.
It’s dark, so dark; I thought that my eyes would have adjusted…apparently not. I can only vaguely remember how I ended up in this cruel, black place. I am being held captive, of that I’m absolutely sure. But who are the people who have taken me? They haven’t come to check on my or even bring me food. I think they want me to starve to death, but why? Have I done something so terrible to deserve thus? I hear a dripping, am I in a cave? Ha! How could I be in a cave? Even caves have entrances and there isn’t a shimmer of light visible anywhere. I have to try to find a way out. Oh, how I wish I could see. A wall! Well, there is one accomplishment; I’ve found a wall. Surely I can find a way out if I stay tight to the wall. How does one get a place so dark? The door would surely let some light through the cracks at its base and edges. Wait. What is that? Why, it’s heat. But from where, I feel no breeze just the warmth on my face. I’ve felt this before, I’m sure. Ah, that’s the sun that is. But how could it be the sun? Even a blind man could see the light from that. Maybe I am blind…or worse. Let’s see, chin, mouth, nose...NO, where are my eyes? They are gone! How? When? Why? What kind of person would take a man’s eyes? What would be the purpose? What could I have done to push someone to the point of removing my eyes? I must find a way out. I need to escape before they come back. I just need to follow the walls I will indubitably find a door eventually. The dripping is getting louder…I must be getting closer to the source of it. I should crouch down on my hands and knees so I can tell when I’ve hit the water; the cool cold liquid of life. Ah, there it is. Wait this is neither cool nor cold…its warm. It also feels thicker than any water I’ve ever had. No, it can’t be…this can’t be…blood. Oh, but I’m sure it is I can smell the stink in the air! Is this my blood? Let’s see; not cuts or opened wounds to my knowledge. Then where did the blood come from? Was there another person in here with me? If there was there will be a body around here surely. I need to keep crawling. There seems to be an appalling amount of blood on the floor I never thought a human body could hold so much of it. What’s was that!? I hear a grinding sound, like the sound of a gate opening. Oh no! They are coming for me, I’m sure of it! I must hide, but where? I’ve only begun to search this room that I’m in and so far I’ve found nothing but flat walls. No nooks or crannies for me to hide behind, nothing but open space. I cant let them get me, I must run. I’ve got open space in front of me, that much I know. I’ll run as far and as fast as I can. I better put my hands out in front of me so I don’t run into anything. Farther, I must go farther. This room is unbelievably vast, does it have an end at all? I hear footsteps! They are inside. I need to run faster. I need to…ugh. Ha, I guess I found the end. That would certainly explain the sudden stop and why I’m laying on the floor without the strength to move. I can feel my mind slipping, my conscious breaking and leaving. Darkness is surrounding my thoughts…they’ll catch me now I’m sure. They’ve won.
