A story about a man, who loves his wife, but is thrown into a vast conflict.
You know... being a space marine... the best part of it is the drive to come back. Yeah, I said it correctly, the best part about going into space, fighting the fifthly Martian rebels and Venusian groundhogs is coming back to earth. Why? Why would I want to come back to overcrowded, crime-ridden, concrete to the core Earth?

Simply because she's there.

Yeah, cliche. Military soldier longing to return back to his wife and child. Is there anything wrong with that? No, you think, but shouldn't you at least enjoy space? Enjoy the thrill of riding a rocket to the stars and the best thrill ride in the universe?

No, you wanna now why? Because really, unless your near a planet, (in which your usualy fired on my Martian rebels or Venusian groundhogs), theres nothing to see. The sun blocks out all the light from the stars like during the day on Earth.

You see nothing but the black of space and the dots that are the planets far, far in the distance.
So yes, if clichue is being a space marine longing to return to his wife and child he's never seen, then I am clichue, and if clichue is a bad thing, shoot me. (you'll miss, trust me people have tried for years.)

So now your asking, why did you join the space marines anyway? Well the answer is very simple. When my child grows up, when she hears the stories about how the Venusian groundhogs built their own rockets, waded into space and stole our technology, and decided to declare war on us she asks, Daddy, what did you do? Then I'll be straight forward and answer. I kissed your mother's forhead, patted her tummy and said: "I'm not going anywhere."

WHAT?!?! You are thinking. But, he just said, but... but...

Yeah, same thing I thought. I ignored the war for the most part. The first few months. I ignored the fact that Earth had lost
control of Mercury and the select asteriod's in-between Venus and home. I ignored the fact that not only was the government asking for recruits but so were the faiths. The Christian, the Muslim, even the peaceful Buddist, all calling us to take up arms against our young sentinent war-mongering brothers.

I ignored it all.

I worked, in my spare time, on my own rocket, like all real men. I adjusted its solar fins, tweaked its fuel ignitor, fiddled with its fuel-nozzle. Hey, it was a blast, until the military inducted me into tweaking theirs. Boy the pay was great, they provided healthcare for Sarda and even provided us a house. Yeah, a house. On all of waste, crap ridden earth, the military was giving us a house. Right by the sea actually, you could see the sunrise with its great red and orange colors. Oh, how I remember sitting on the beach by Sarda and smiling the stupidest little grin.
Yet that was also the day when the Martian rebels attacked. The most horrible day in history to say the least. Their fleets came in kidnapped the President, Josh Tree, fought our fleets and left. Earth was leaderless and terrified of being attacked by two planets at once, something that was becoming clearer and clearer by the day.

That when General Standsill came. He looked me straight into my dark brown eyes and I looked right back into his sorrowful grey face and he looked at Sarda, violent beautiful, red hair and so, so deep envy green eyes. Then he looked at me. "We need you, get in the rocket." I replied with a shake of my head. "No sir, I have a bab-" he looked back into my eyes and said "In a few years from now, do you want to be able to tell your daughter that you had the guts, the humanity, to get into that rocket and ride for all that its worth? or do you want to tell her that you where a wuss? a coward? who couldn't stand-up for basic humans rights?"

You already know the answer. You already know that I did get on the rocket, I did get sent up to Mars to shoot bullet holes into the Martian fool. You already know I went to Jupiter and forticated its farm moons. You already know that I went as far as Pluto to stop a groundhog nuclear test. You already know that I flew my rocket as one of the best and shot holes into the worst. You know I armed the defense laser on the moon and destroyed entire fleets. You know I have traveled within inches from the sun.
You know how I long to return to Earth...
To return to Sarda, to our child...
You already know how I was captured, enslaved and sent deep below Venusian. You know I didn't escape. You know I stand before you, great, demonic lord of the Venusian groundhogs. You already know, I am about to die.
