Love's Disgrace

 

Without moving my hand

from her knee or her face,

I whispered to my lover

with a passionate grace

"I'm not easy to be with"

in this, love's enduring race.

Upward she moved her eyes

to meet my tortured gaze.

 

Continued, did I,

without missing a beat.

My heart did flutter,

with what intensity she looked at me.

 

"I want to be with you,"

voice strong and sure,

"but I don't want to hurt you."

voice cracking with love so pure.

 

To which she gently responded

as if on bended knee,

"I can take care of myself,

with enough left over to care for thee."

 

A kiss is thus procured,

leading onward to passionate embrace.

She is my valiant, beautiful princess,

And I, her blameless, shameless, damsel in disgrace.
