A bittersweet memory and moment, shared.
Alone, I stand- on this deserted beach
as peace of mind fled upwards out of reach,
to taunt as I contemplate days gone by.
Long onerous pain, ebbing with the tide,
leaving me haunted still by thoughts of you.
My heart used to know our love was true-
hand in hand, as we once walked together;
but now it's changed much like the weather.
Yet, even now, I have come to chase my past
and wonder if I'll find a love to last.

My heart is struck down by your last words
that echo still from dissonant chords
I let them flow out atop the waves,
to drown and pull me back to that day.

As the apartment door stood wide open;
apologetic words left unspoken,
together we walked out onto the grass.
Sorrow filled our words as time slowly passed.
Realization crept in- overcame me;
I could not move, there was nowhere to flee.
Until now, you were my love and friend.
I could not imagine this was the end.
Though strangely never asking you to stay,
my heart beats longing to relive this day.

These thoughts of you just slip away,
leaving me, much like you did that day.
Crashing of waves becomes incessant-
jars my senses back to the present.

The sun is now closer to the moutains.
I find my eyes shed tears like twin fountains.
The brilliant sunset sky eases my pain-
of brief wanders through your memory again.
I am reminded of a better day;
a time when you had kinder words to say.
The time has come, so I now make the choice
and hold close in my heart, your laughing voice.
Here I leave the pain and bid you adieu
to walk away whispering "I love you."
