The World Today

Is our world worse than
That of our fathers before,
Is humanity more uncaring
Than the years of the 1st or 2nd World War?

Can the horrendous, heinous acts
In the country of Africa be,
Compared to the atrocities Hilter carried out
Despite the Jews merciful plea.

Are we more violent now
Bullets used when our patience is put to the test,
Just like they did in
The OK Coral of the Wild Wild West.

We have advance so far technologically
Humanity lagging far behind,
Yester-year didn't have color TV
But were people more compassionate and kind?

Our grandparents talked of hard work
And of pride and patriotism in the USA,
Today more people are on welfare
And patriotism seems to be just a buzzword to say.

There seems to be a lack of respect
For people, police and parents today,
Where as in the 50's and 60's
Helping out didn't mean you profited in some way.

Marriage much more than a party
Meaning the most only at the I do's,
Today married couples are willing
To divorce at the first time trouble ensues.

So many children being raised today
By one parent too busy to teach,
Gone are the old ways
Of actually practicing what you preach.

The world is entirely run by profit
Loyal only to the almighty buck,
If you aren't a part of the bottom line
Then you are completely out of luck.

The rally battle cry against polio
Eliminating its scare for sure,
Has been replaced by making money
Instead of finding a cure.

Has the world truly worsened
Or is it a figment of our minds,
Greed, violence and selfishness
Definitely are powerful signs.

More people are starving
Than ever before,
The rich keep getting richer
And more and more are becoming poor.

We don't band together now
Unite, rally and fight too,
Those 1960's sit in demonstrations against
Have shown what the power of people can do.

Unless we wake up and change
There won't be any left to give,
We will completely use this world up
Leaving no place for our grandkids to live.
