Feel-good poem about having power and pride in life.
Shaping the Future

The world turns round and round;
I don’t try to stop it.
But how my life is played out for society,
rests in these two brown hands.
I don’t want to be a prima donna.
I don’t want to be a bum.
I don’t want to be known,
for the things I lack.
I want my own words remembered.
But I don’t need a pedestal,
and I don’t need a platform,
for you to see these words and know
that I did not conform.
That I will not be another teen statistic.
That I live my own life…
That I will take a stand,
and not be ‘normal’.
That path has come
and I watched it pass me by.
I will not give up hope.
I will rise and go beyond.
I will shape the future,
with these two brown hands.
