We are cells and we demand your attention! |
I wrote this for a persona exercise. The assignment was to take the voice of something that's non-cognitive. I kind of continued the tone from the poem called "Mushroom" (I forgot the author's name but a famous one) I wrote three versions of this poem, but everytime I had to start over from scratch because I lost the previous one (literally lost the previous one). So it's interesting to see how three versions of the same poem are the same yet different. Here's the only one that I managed to preserve. Please comment. I'm not too confident with poetry so please reply and tell me how to improve. Thank you. Cell Every day, every minute, every second Working, controlling, manipulating We are diligent Our presence unnoticed Our work undermined But our persistent spirit is enpowering Without praises we keep on working We are microscopic, complex, and weightless Synthesizing, transcribing, translating We are paramount Our body builds the trunk of every tree Our genome codes for the organisms in the sea Alone we are small and powerless But together we achieve greatness And without any awards we keep on going We appear circular, rectangular, and rod-like Phtosynthesizing, fermentating, respirating We are diverse Our skin changes color From red to yellow to green and to pink We bloat and we shrivel Constantly changing roles to match our surroundings And without the status of a celebrity we keep on acting We swim in the water, fly in the air, and root in the earth Feeding, supporting, defending We are unified Our cell walls are connected by junctions Our limbs are attached by tendons Together we hunt for food Together we fight for life And without titles of nobility we keep on collaborating Archea, Bacteria, Eukarya Mutating, dying, reproducing We are the basis of life Our forms evolve Our funtions change Yesterday we were obsolete Today we are verstaile In silence we will keep on reforming And changing the future of life on earth |
