She doesn't always see her reflection in the mirror but someone elses... |
She looked in the mirror that morning after she crawled out of bed. She didn't mean too. She never does. It would look strange to have all the mirrors covered in her home. She knew she was better off just not looking! The torment of knowing what was there was bad enough. That morning it would have been impossible to avoid it for very long. Today would be the 11th year she would mourn her mothers passing. In the silence of this old house, the memories played through her mind. Just like a movie she viewed , time as it slowly passed through her mind. She pulled her glance from the mirror. She turned to stare out the window, down the road. So close, yet so far away sat the house her mother and father shared until her mothers last breath. They had good times, they had bad. Never did any compare to those last few weeks of her mothers life. Never could she regain the innocence she had before cancer took her mother from her side. She remembered so well those moans of, "No more, No more!" as she held her mother whilst she took her last breath. They say her mother is in a better place! She agrees, for nothing could compare to the torture she bears, day after day. Never will she allow them to stare. Instead she hides her face in shame . What stares back from the mirror before her... Her mothers face! The doctors said it was impossible! Her father said it was true! Her husband he left her, he just couldn't cope. In the end her family deceived her. All that remains is hope! Hope that some day she can remember why she hates the fact her mothers face is now her own! Several years have gone by slowly, she sits staring at the face God gave her.She has lost all hope. Believing its the face that has destroyed her. In desperate measures she approaches the mirror knife in hand. Only she knows, she couldn't mar a single soul. Her mothers' face continues to stand before her. Time moves on! Twenty years have gone by, today she stands with faith! Mom's face has been kind to her,it has gotten her far. Today she stands and looks in the mirror! Stating to herself ," My mothers face is now mine, for she didn't make it this far!" word count (405) |
