I'd taken to dressing and undressing with as little use of a mirror as possible - I was a sorry sight for the eyes. Used to being trim and fit, my swollen body made me think more of the Michelin Man than a mannequin. Naturally pale, now next to me
white qualified as a color. And, I was bald. Let me not forget that. Once, when visiting me, a dear friend commented "You look rather like a boiled egg". We had
both laughed because my ordeal was nearing an end. Still, I was not prepared for the morning I stepped into the shower, lathered up and felt something sharp on my scalp. It was almost like sandpaper. Sopping wet, I leapt out of the shower and, trailing water all the way, headed for the dreaded mirror. Glory To God!!! There it was - stubble! It would be months before that stubble would resemble a hairdo of any sort but every day thereafter was a joyful journey.
