                              The Making of a Modern Lazarus.

“and when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus come forth.”
St. John 11:43

It was the day of reckoning, will I live or not? I was at the balcony, standing with stretched arms on both sides facing the east waiting for the first rays of the sun. This is my ritual everyday. But that day was different. I was much earlier than the dawn to appear. I waited until I felt the benevolence of the rays of the sun and murmured my wish, and a prayer to my creator. I didn’t question the aberration of nature given to me, because I believed everything happens with a purpose.

I remembered the words of my grandfather, “ The sun is the giver of life. It is a manifestation that there is a greater power beyond. It gives the most energy equally to all men, to all living creatures on earth. It gives power, strength, courage, luck and any wish to be granted. Beat the sunrise and face the sun, and let your body absorb the energy of the rising sun”.

I left, went to my destination, to begin the struggle and fight for my life. I saw several of us in the pre-operating room. I looked around the advanced technology, medical machines, neurosurgeons, medical staff and nurses. All these are wisdom created by men but a blessing from our creator.

Before I lost my consciousness, I said a short prayer, “Lord, I offer you my body, my soul and my spirit, if it’s your will, it shall be done. Remember the others too in this room.” My fear was gone, found peace inside me while saying the verses of St. John about Lazarus. I woke up fourteen hours later.
