poem written an hour after the birth of my daughter, capturing the emotion of the event.
basement pushes,
elevator eyes,
squatting,
i am all of my ancestors before human form.

dinosaur sounds,
the warmth of my blood
covering the feet
that danced
when they learned
of this
conception.

florid aura,
here she is....
my daughter.

so many pounds,
so small to hold,
her smell so much like the jungle;

i am a mama lion,
licking her cub
in the white, white sun,
pawing everything else away.

i am perfect and whole
suspended in the movement of this tide.
