Love's Battles

Before I met you
love was my enemy
we fought many battles
love almost defeated me
I was always eluded
by love's many faces
before I could win
we would fight many places
Now, I tell you no lie
love cheated a lot
that's because I was careless
so I deserved what I got
I became so naive
towards the battles I'd lost
I gave love all the credit
but I, paid the cost
Indeed there were times
love played games with me
one move had me trapped
just when I thought I was free
And we went on this way
for quite some while
when others spoke of me
I was known as love's child
So I owned up to my name
I carried it well
everytime love would beat me
I ended right back in jail
But I kept on fighting
I kept trying to get out
but love just kept on hitting
no matter how loud I'd shout
I had given up hope
thought there was nothing I could do
but then someone came along
and that someone was you
Right away I was scared
I was frightened, no lie
I thought, here comes love again
coming back to help me die
But you changed all that
your words were so friendly
and soon I began thinking
this man's not my enemy
You gave me attention
and took me out of the rain
when I was starving from love
you said I shouldn't feel shamed
You opened my heart
and covered my wounds
when I cried from the pain
you said it'd be over soon
And I remember asking
how can I trust in you
everytime I meet love
I end up abused
And you looked at me and said
I am not that way
I promise not to hurt you
starting here, on today
But I was suddenly confused
I said, how can this be love
you whispered to me and said
cause it came from above
So I knew I'd finally won
no more battles, no more fears
cause you came along, you helped me
told me true love held no tears
