Excitement overcame me as I waited for
my daughter to arrive.
Lying in the cold of the hospital room,
I strained to hear her cry.
Fear replaced my excitement when her
cry was never heard.
I remember how I pleaded and begged to
exchange my life for hers.
The next day as I waited to hear how
she did throughout the night,
I held a moment of thankfulness when I
learned that she was all right.
On the day that we were to go home,
I was warned it would be tough.
I knew I should expect just that since
her arrival had been rough.
Sometimes when I watched her sleep at night,
she would forget to breathe.
Everytime I witnessed this I would fall
down upon my knees.
I would reach out to shake her tiny foot,
praying all the while,
that I would hear her gasp in air and then
waiting for her smile.
I still watch her sleep at night with my
love as a blanket to warm her.
Moments of thankfulness are every one to date
since the arrival of my daughter.
