The greatest soldier of all conquered death, hell and the grave to grant us freedom.
He has been remembered time and again
Praised by a few, cursed by many kin

It was not a battle of flesh and blood that He fought
Spiritual keys to God's kingdom for mankind He sought

An innocent Lamb bore the sacrifice and shame
No sin to account for, for His flesh He had tamed

Forty days and nights, He fasted and prayed to His Father
He bore hunger and loneliness, for Him it was no bother

Though tempted with fame, fortune, and great power
He said, "Satan, get thee gone," though at a weak hour

Though they yelled, "Crucify him!" and scourged Him
He looked up to the heavens and said, "Father forgive them."

He did not curse or hurt them, though they wanted Him dead
He remained calm with no offense, standing His ground instead

After saying, "It is finished," and giving up His shell
For three days He went down to the depths of hell

With satan, three days He contended and battled
He rose up with keys, victorious in glory, not rattled

Beating death, hell, and the grave, He paid the price
For freedom of all mankind, a perfect sacrifice

That battle was won, but the war is not yet complete
On the Mount of Olives the Son will again set His feet
