A tear jerker ( the pun is intended) |
"Return My River of Tears" Unleash the flood waters onto my baking heart Release the proverbial thumb in the dike; I'm drying from the crying as we depart. Mere rancid tears, the only offer for a parched sigh. Why can't I undam the damned gates of suffering eyelids? I beg Poseidon, Come forth from the sea. To thee serpents and sirens, I do bid Drown my sawdust soul. Give me liberty. See my depth of despair and know what it takes; Understand my spirit is drained of sharing. Baptize these dry bones in your murky lakes That I shall begin repairing. Thunder Beings, quick, quench this loneliness with a monsoon. Shroud my cotton skin under a waterfall; Lace a deserted face with watery sounds of the loon, And lose this fevered creature among the reeds so tall. Builders of canals, map out roads of waterways Before the fire-storm embers of my veins do tease And have their final say. Suffer me to surf the tepid waves at least On busy streets of Venice, indeed. Return my river of tears, I plead. Water nymphs, allure me to ponds With croaking frogs and skimming dragonflies, Where there's lonely whippoorwill sounds. Bathe me to wrinkles in a water soaked child's playful cries. Whisk the sands of this doomed dune To the mystical and mysterious tune Of babbling, gurgling brooks That offer forgotten love songs to these pasty looks. Without a whisper, you were gone. What more can I say after all these years? You have left with me, only a dry song. Please return my river of tears. 34 line count |
