An invocation of a Sun Goddess
Invocation of the Sun Goddess
1982
Georgiana Bowley

Sekhet, Bast, Lioness,
Goddess of the green and gold,
Pulse within.
Clothe my skin in myrrh,
so my fagragrant vapor
is as a rose garden,
shimmering faintly with starlight,
at twilight,
as the Spring Nymph slides into maturity.
Clothe me in velvet armor,
deep blue silk around my thigh,
a golden hilted iron sword swinging from my hip.
I drink a cup of blood,
each drop uttermost love, shed for Thee.
By the torn of the deepest rose,
I draw new souls to Thee.
I fly to the moon's horn and gather the babes.
In a chariot of silver,
with crimson reins, they ride,
drawn by a winged unicorn,
to the harmony of the rose gold light.

By night I pray to Thee, Black Goddess.
Thou art the ebony inlaid with gold
in which I keep my sacred scarab.
Thou art the unguent that melts
at the breath of a kiss.
Thou art bliss.
I sprinkle salt at the four corners;
I invoke Thee.
I purify my heart.
I adore Thee.
Naked, I am Your Light.
I am brass, copper, gold.
I wear a ruby between my breasts
whose milk is Your life.
My dwelling is an ancient city.
I am the wild motion.
I listen to the cymbals clash
as the great bull swaggers.
I am Hathor; I leap bulls.
I am an acrobat.
When the flutes play,
I wear the seven veils
of the seven sacred planets,
and dance under Your gaze.
I am warm in Your embrace.

When I enter Your temple,
I carry a flask of honey water to your shrine.
I say: This is Thine.
You shine with pleasure, warming it,
and it does not putrefy.
It disperses.
It is the flesh and the blood.
It is the golden essence of life.
It is the milk of Your left breast.
It is transmuted to blue light.
I sprinkle honey water at the four corners.
It is burned in a blue flame.
Each drop is a placid sea, containing no motion.
The blue light is the moon waning.
She is the infertile egg.
You are luminous.
You are red gold.
You are jasper, my heart, my liver.
You are my tongue.
You are my body of light;
You are my shadow.

I am the daughter of Hathor.
I am the daughter of the Goddess.
