Lets help each other with caregiving
I want to make a place where caregivers can help each other with problems. Tell us the troubles you are having and see if anyone has been there and can offer you advice. for example: Someone could be having problems geting an eldrerly person to bathe. so they post that and then people can tell how they handled this situation.

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Wow thanks everyone for all the chatting in here. I have been unable to connect to the internet as we moved camp grounds and we are barried in the trees but its so nice there. Just have to come into town to get on here. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "esprit No I couldn't imajine being so lost. I do love my work I feel it has purpose.Scottiegaz Says Happy Birthday I hope that your Grandmother is ok. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Alot of times the elderly don't mention their falls because they are afraid of the outcome. As Children get worried."

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Kitti - Happy Birthday WCom you may sugjest a baby intercom system. That way your uncle can turn it on at night and hear your Grandmother if she is having any problems. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "I am not sure where you are located but maybe they have a life alert system. Your grandma could wear a necklace that she could puss a button and alert someone for help. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Thease are just a few Ideas. Let me know how things go."

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Legerdemain thanks for your comment that is another option."

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Forge *Smile* very true. Well everyone my hubby is tired of setting here so we better move on down the raod. Before I leave town I hope to post the mental care artical in my portfolio so you can read it all."

dimondj2 Author Icon says "We are at a baseball game and I have finished up my next artical called Making the right choice. I will post it in peices on here soon."

dimondj2 Author Icon says "I am editing a piece I wrote about making the right choice for care giving. I will be posting it here soon."

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Most people, who cannot take care of their loved ones for one reason or another, generally place them in nursing homes or retirement centers. Another option is Adult Foster Care Homes. . "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "I have worked with elderly in this kind of setting for a large portion of my life. If you are considering an Adult Foster Care Home for your loved one, I want to share with you how to go about finding the best match for your family member. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Adult Foster care homes are private homes that are generally run by an owner/operator and relief help or resident managers and relief help. They provide care that your loved one needs in a one on one family setting. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "These homes can have five residents at a time and some can also have day care clients too. The care is relaxed, private care in a homely-oriented, friendly atmosphere. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Adult Foster Care Homes divide into three classes based on the level of care necessary. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Class one takes people who don’t require a lot of care. Normally their only need is medication management. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Class two is the most popular because they can take people that class one can and also people requiring more care, such as shower assistance and assistance with daily activities like dressing and diet management. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Class two homes can also take people in wheelchairs. Some even allow your loved one’s pets to live there too. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Class three homes take people needing more care, including those who need tube feeding and are bedridden. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "No matter what class the home is they are all licensed through the state. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "This means that anyone can call their local senior and disabled division to obtain a list of Adult Foster Care Homes in their area. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Now that you have an understanding about how Adult Foster Care works, "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "the following information will assist you to choose the right home for your loved one. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "First look at the list you obtained from your senior and disabled services "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "and determine whether your loved one would be eligible for class one, two or three. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Then write down some questions you might ask on your first call to those homes. I have given you a few ideas listed below. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "1.Ask the cost and if the home accept Medicare clients. 2.Is the home owner operated or manager operated? "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "3.If your loved one has a pet ask if the pet can stay with your loved one. On the flip side if your loved one has allergies you may want to make sure the house has no pets. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "4.If your loved one is a private person, you may want to ask if the home has a private room available. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "5.If you live out of state or your schedule won’t allow you to take your loved one to appointments you should inquire if the home could provide this service. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "6.If your loved one is incontinent or maybe they have a tough time walking, a commode by the bedside may be needed ask if that is acceptable. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "7.Is your loved one a wanderer? If so you need to know if the house has alarms on the doors. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "During your phone calls you should also ask any other questions you can think of. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Make notes of the answers and put a checkmark by the homes that fit your loved ones care needs. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Then I suggest that you visit the homes that you have checked. Do this unannounced "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "and take a look at the house, the caregiver, and the other residents. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Make notes and put a star by the homes your loved one would feel at home in. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "For example, if your loved one is active you wouldn’t want them in a home where the residents just sit and watch TV. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Once you have done that and narrowed your list down, return two more times "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "to the top three homes you have chosen from your list. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Make sure these visits are unannounced and at different times of the day. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "I have you do this because a caregiver needs to be flexible. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "If he/she can’t drop what they’re doing and take time for you, then, tell me, how do you think they would handle an emergency situation? "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Once you have completed all the above, you will have decided which home will work for your loved one. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "So now it’s time for your loved one to see the home. Call the home and ask if they do a day care program. If they say no suggest one. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Tell them you would like your loved one to come and stay for an eight-hour period-covering two meals- before you place them in their home. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Offer to pay for the day if that’s what it takes. I believe this time will ensure that your loved one likes the food, and can get along with the other residents, "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "But most important it will allow the caregiver a chance to make sure he or she can provide adequate care for your loved one. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "When you pick up your loved one ask the caregiver if they feel like they could provide the care your loved one needs on a long term basis. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "The last thing you want to do is move your loved one from home to home. If you find that this home will not work complete this step again with the top houses on your list "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "until you find the one that will work. Then it will be time to call the home and let them know that you would like to move your loved one into their facility. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "The owner will then have you go over some paper work that they are required to do by law, and give you a move in-date for your loved one. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "I have done caregiving for 28-plus years in many situations. Out of those years the ones I loved the most were the seven years I owned and operated my Adult Foster Care Home. The End "

esprit Author Icon says "dimondj2, this article is quite thorough. Good job! Do you write articles on this topic and submit them somewhere? I think they'd be useful to many. Choosing a home is so important, they need to learn all they can on how to do it."

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Esprit, Thank You so much! I did that artical for an assignment in my writing class and yes I will be putting a book together on caregiving and all that comes with it. Thanks again Jewel"

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Hi everyone I wanna try something here. I am a past caregiver and want to help others with any situations they may have. But I am not getting any responses. So since this place is all about gift points you receive I thought why not do a reward thing. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Ok so this is how it will work. If any of you email me with a situation you may need help with or your just thinking about related to care-giving in any situation it could be that you are the person needing the care. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "What ever it be lets keep it clean this is meant to help not offend. Anyways email me the situation I will give you 50 gift points "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "then for every solution I will give 25 gift points to you and to the people leaving the comments.Or should I say The Solutions. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "For example: The situation: Lets say I am caring for an elderly lady in my home and her daughter comes to visit everyday and that would be great but she inevitably brings her son who is 2 years old "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "and an only child he throws tantrums and disturbs the other people I care for. He also breaks something at every visit. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "A solution: I might just grin and bear it because I don't want them to move mom out of my care home. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Ok so now I think you got the idea So do you have any solution for this situation and or can you think of any other situations a person may have to deal with. When caring for an elderly or disabled person. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Or maybe you are the person needing the care and its a situation that you have been threw. Let me hear them and earn your POINTS TODAY "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Ok no one wants to start this so let me."

dimondj2 Author Icon says "A caregiver is assisting a man with his ADL'S and while doing this the man is talking to the caregiver as if she is his daughter. What should the caregiver do?"

dimondj2 Author Icon says "I think the caregiver should politly tell the man who she is."

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Ok Just want to know your feelings on this. A lady is dyeing she has only a few hours to live. I walk in her room as her care-giver but she thinks i'm her son. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Do I tell her no i'm not johnny. No I cant do that I can tell that she really needs to tell johnny how sorry she is about something so I hold her hand and tell her it's ok mom everything is ok. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "I sit there and hold her hand as she takes her last breath."

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Now what I want to know is in this situation did I do the right thing and let her get her last words said or should I of stopped her and told her that I wasn't her son. Let me know what you think and why????: "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "Another situation: A lady has fallen on the side walk what do you do?"

esprit Author Icon says ""he throws tantrums and disturbs the other people I care for. He also breaks something at every visit. " you may already do this, but what about toys to keep him busy? Kids love to dig stuff out of boxes. Perhaps he's bored?"

esprit Author Icon says "I hold her hand and tell her it's ok mom everything is ok. " This is what I would do. It helps her and does no harm to anyone. "

dimondj2 Author Icon says "thanks esprit"
