While taking a late afternoon walk around Donaldsonville, the small town my family and I evacuated to during the levee breaches, we came upon a relatively small brown dog wandering along a road beside a sugar cane field. We approached with caution, but she proved to be a friendly dog. She followed us home. We fed her, took her to the vet, and named her Missy. No one ever came to claim her, so when we left to return to New Orleans, we took her with us. Her ears have been mutilated and she has other old scars that are most likely the result of her being forced to fight other dogs. Despite having been treated so cruel, Missy is a lovable Pit Bull.
Update: Missy passed away on May 2013. Surely miss.
