Relationships often have breakdowns, but people often can't see why.
Together Forever

You were beside me from the start,
And all along I had your heart.
         A fire in the bush,
Your love leapt eagerly across to me.
I always promised that forever,
We would always be together.

         But what makes me falter?
         Why do I pause?
         What makes me hold back?
         Why do I wait?

Then one night we had a fight,
And I broke the bedroom light.
         A fire in the bush,
         Unhindered, it turned savage.
And now that we are not together,
I see that we could never have been forever.

         But what makes me falter?
         Why do I pause?
         What makes me hold back?
         Why do I wait?

I saw you in the shop the other day,
I watched as you continued quietly on your way.
A fire dieing in the bush,
         Rain quenched the savage thirst.
From then I knew I’d think of you forever,
Even though we will not be together.

         But what makes me falter?
         Why do I pause?
         What makes me hold back?
         Why do I wait?

I couldn’t resist you anymore,
So I walked up slowly to your front door.
         Ash in the bush,
         Running down the stream.
I asked if we could make a new start,
I wanted you to rekindle my heart.

I wanted us to be together,
I wanted us to be forever.
         A seedling in the bush,
Up it sprouts, its first leaf.
You asked me if had learnt,
Just how much it had hurt.
To you it felt like I had left,
Even though you’d tried your best.
I had run off with your heart,
So it was my fault from the start.

I now know what made me falter.
I knew why I had paused.
I now knew what held me back.
I knew why I had waited.

I told you that I can’t go on forever,
With the thought that we’re not together.
         A seedling in the bush,
         Sprouting for the sky.
So you agreed that we can be together,
We agreed. We are forever.
