WILLIAM IS A WRESTLER By Terry Burres Text and illustration suggestions for picture book in a series of sports books for kids. [suggestions for illustrations] William is a wrestler.[William in aggressive stance] William's Dad drives William all the way across town every Tuesday and Thursday to practice with other wrestlers. [dad/william in car] At the practice they learn all types of take downs. [kids in take down styles] They practice different throws. [kids in throw styles] They try different moves. They practice so hard they could do them in their sleep. [kids watching coaches wrestling] When William is not at practice he works-out in the gym that his Mom made for him in the basement. [will in home gym] He can lift weights on the weight bench. [will lifting] He has a pull up bar and a place to do setups [will on set up bench] He likes to run with his sister. [will /sis running] On Saturdays William goes to wrestling meets so that he can compete with other wrestlers. Some times the meets are near William's house. [will at match lots of kids] Most of the time though William and his family drive several hours to get to the meets. Sometimes they stay in motels if the meets are held on two days.[family in motel OR driving late at night - will sleeping] William's wrestles with people who are about his age and weight. He has to weigh-in to find out which weight class that he can wrestle. [show weigh-in] He spends a lot of time waiting for his matches. He watches other matches or thinks about what he must do to win his match. [will watching & talking with coach] Sometimes William wins.[will with arm in air declared winner] Sometimes William loses. [will sitting on mat with other kid’s arm raised] William's Mom and Dad tell him that he may not like losing ; but, it is all right if he doesn't win every time. Everyone has bad days when they lose no matter how hard they work. The best wrestlers lose sometimes. They are the best because they keep trying and they never give up. [mom/dad talking to will at match] His Mom and Dad want William to do his best and be a good sport WIN OR LOSE. When William loses he tries to find something that will help to be a better wrestler the next time he wrestles. It hurts to lose when he has worked so hard but William tries to be a good sport. [will shaking hands with winner] Win or lose William enjoys being a wrestler. [will standing in front of his trophies in stance] |
