Rough Draft
As the waves washed up against my face, my head tossed lazily around. How long would this last? My chin rested against my chest as my eyes closed once again.

" It is time to come out of the water! " My Mother could yell louder than anybody I had heard. Well, at least that was my opinion. " Can I stay out for two more minutes?"
" NO! " she yelled. The taste of the salt water was all over my lips. My hair was laced with sand because of the shallow area I have been swimming in. "Eat your lunch and you can go back in the water after a while. You need to rest."

Being near the water was as much a part of my families summers as anybody else. Summer meant eating watermelon, bicycle riding, salty air, sand filled shoes and the Atlantic. Who could resist those temptations? Not a single soul came to mind.

After 30 minutes had passed, I found myself thinking heavily. The sun beat down on my shoulders and made thoughts grow in my mind. The sound of water gently washing up gave me that hypnotic rhythm needed. My chin rested against my chest as my eyes closed once again.

" I wonder if the sand will ever come out of these shoes again? "
" Maybe it will when you buy me another pair? " I asked my Mother.
" You already have a pair. Why do you need another? "
" I don't know. Maybe everybody needs two pair of shoes. " I replied.
I watched her take the towel from the ground and shake it into the breeze. The sand flew out with ease while the constant sound of the waves crashing into the beach.

The wind started to pick up and slowly brought with it some clouds. A few blocked the sun long enough to look out over the water. That glare can be brutal on the eyes. Nothing on the horizon but more waves. More waves, bigger waves. Time seemed to be passing by as fast as the clouds. I can't remember how long I had been here. The only thing I can remember is being tired. My chin rested against my chest as my eyes closed once again.
