the reason for suffering |
| HEART OF GOLD by Mary Pat Strenger Loomis (as published in June Cotner's, "Bless the Day," 1998, Kodansha, America, Inc.) Help me to remember, Lord, When suffering seems unfair, You test our faith, You test our strength, You test how much we care. As the test of gold is fire, Letting purity unfold, You take our spirit, try to clear it, And forge a heart of gold. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Author's note: In the collection, this poem follows The Beatitudes, Mt. 5:3-9; in the author index I follow Lincoln, Abraham, as if being included wasn't exciting enough! |
