A story about a little brat who goes fishing. Written for the Writer's Cramp contest.
“I wanna catch a fish! Mommy, Daddy, I wanna catch a fish RIGHT NOW!!!”, Cindy screamed. People stared at the horrible behavior. The bratty seven year old was treated like a princess, and received everything her heart desired. Her parents glanced at each other, and regretfully approved. They watched as the girl ran off to get what she would need, credit card in her hand.

The girl stomped up to the small, wooden booth stocked with fishing supplies. She arrogantly pointed at the most expensive fishing rod- Ultra Fish Catcher 2000. Equipped with the finest fishing rod technology, it was definitely top of the line.

“Uh, are ya sure ya want that one, little girl? That’s sixty bucks right there.” He pointed to the torn price tag dangling from it. “Your parents wouldn’t be very happy, now would they, huh?”

“NO! I want the fancy one, and I want it now! So, mister fish guy, here’s mommy’s credit card. Give me some worms, too!” Cindy crossed her arms and looked over her shoulder.

The man behind the booth reluctantly handed her what she needed. “Here ya go, miss. One deluxe fishing rod and a bucket of worms. Here, let me show you how to-”

Cindy threw her arms up and cut the man off. “I know how to do it! Whaddaya think, I was just born yesterday? Jeez!

Cindy stormed away with her supplies, her blonde, curly hair blowing in the wind, occasionally hitting other lake-goers. She sat down and looked out on the small, muddy lake. She mushed a few worms onto the hook, and gripped the rod tightly. With a clumsy flick, she cast the line into the lake. Her face turned from excited to disappointed in a matter of seconds.

Cindy faced her dad and whined, “Nothing’s happening! Daddy, why isn’t anything happening?”

“You have to be patient, sweetie. It’ll take a little while.” Her father consoled. The father knew that he shouldn’t be letting his daughter get away with this behavior. Still, he watched as his daughter became more and more frustrated. This is horrible, he thought. I better start laying down the law soon, or Cindy will be like this forever.

Cindy turned back to look for any signs of fish swimming around in the lake. She let out a loud humph and pouted. She was bored out of her mind, and began to question her decision. Maybe fishing was a bad idea, she wondered. Well, I got a pretty, shiny, new toy already! All I need is a fish! This catching stuff is stupid!

“Mommy! Daddy! This is boring and stupid and not fun! Buy me a fish! A big, pretty, rainbow colored fish! Please, pretty pretty please?” Cindy threw the bucket of worms into the lake reeled her line back in. She dragged the fishing rod to where her parents were standing.

Ok, I’m gonna show this kid how to behave. No more. I’m gonna stop this nonsense once and for all!, the dad thought confidently. “N-n-nooo... you can’t- I mean, of course sweetie!”

Cindy and her parents walked to the mini-van, and drove to the grocery store around the corner. She picked out the biggest, most expensive gift she had ever seen. Cindy never went fishing again, but pretended to do so every day in the backyard. She used her deluxe fishing rod and store bought fish, making for the easiest catch ever carried out.

“Maybe next time,” Cindy’s father mumbled to himself.
