Nevermore

A dark flutter of wings,
A deep melodic voice sings.
Sweep of night black cloak.
Ivory skin, silver dagger gleams.

Single candle, flickering light,
Dancing shadows seem to fight.
A lonely moonbeam reflects
A single silent tear.

Vaulted arches, cold dark hall.
Giants stare, she feels so small.
A single figure, arms outstretched,
Tears begin to run unchecked.

The raven knows, it sees
The crimson dagger falls.
On her knees, she calls.
No voice replies, then silence.

Sweep of blood soaked cloak.
Lonely moonbeam reflected by
The crimson pool. The final joke?
The giant stares, he weeps.

On the cold hard flagstones, a
Single word engraved, nevermore.

Nevermore.
