WOFTBO “Watch Out For The Burn Out” WOFTBO is a condition created by excessive extended stress. Ongoing exposure of the employee to this condition may lead to disability. Although this condition is frequently created and directly related to the work environment, the condition is not recognized by industry or government. Onset of this condition may occur anytime during an individuals working time from early 20’s to 60’s. Characteristics of WOFTBO may include, but are not limited to: - an inability of the individual to function at the same level as previous in similar tasks - a lack of focus on the task at hand - difficulty in working with team members - employee recognition that management goals are in opposition to employees - …………….. Associated health/family issues may include: - back aches - head aches - stomach pain/ulcers - lack of sleep - loss of interest in everyday activities - anxiety attacks - Management and team leaders in the past have proactively worked toward dismissal of employees showing the indicators of burn out. An educational approach should be developed for both potential burn out victims and managers to cooperatively and productively resolve the problem.
