Mona never thought she’d end up here, of all places, tied to a pole a hundred feet above an active volcano. Just waiting for her genetically enhanced brother to save her.

“He knows where I am! He’ll come for me!”

“That power comes from witchcraft,” bellowed the angry seer, his eyes flaring like dragon flame. “And now I hold your evil witch stick”

“Just because you don’t understand it doesn’t make it witchcraft!” Mona said looking at her communicator, and glad the seer had not found her locator.

“Lies! The witch girl will try and bespell you all! Don’t look at her. We will feed her to the Mountain and the dragon will sleep peacefully again! There will be an end to these rumbles and smoke.” The seer shook his staff monkey bones clanking against seashells “She is the one who caused this unrest! When she and her demon lover fell from the sky in fire and poison smoke, they awoke the dragon! Only their deaths will appease it!” His eyes gleamed with a madness only absolute faith can bring. “Death to the strangers! Death!”

“Please! Just let me go! He’s not a demon! I’m not a demon, we’re not even supposed to be here.”
The volcano shivered and more smoke boiled out temporarily clouding the sight of the seer. That is when Nate struck. Faster than light he leapt to the platform that held his sister, grabbed her and sprinted down the mountain.

“It’s about time! What took you so long?”

“It’s more dramatic this way, now it looks like you were swallowed by the volcano smoke and they’ll stop worrying about you. C’mon let’s get out of here.”

Nate led her back to where he had hidden the landing pod. She looked at him seriously “Next time we get lost from the tour group, can we ask for directions instead of guessing which island is the tropical paradise and which is full of crazy natives?
