Just Stick To The Script, Kid

“All you have to do is hold tight for the green light,”
“Listen to your heart and let your talent take flight,”
These were the lines that circulated his mind,
Producing the heat which crawled down his spine,
Except when it was time to put cause into effect,
The kid was pushed aside due to lack of respect,
He soon became familiar with the words open and close,
The curtain was his call and the only voice he knows,
All his friends were being introduced to fame,
And underneath the credits, he wouldn’t find his name,
The feeling of pride was always replaced with shame,
For his disappointment, there was no one he could blame,
The kid was always taught to give it his best shot,
But it seemed like when he fired, his bullet was always caught,
Don’t pass go and take the show,
Because even the highest felt so low,
Life measured up to the clean up crew,
Nightmares on the bedpost while dreams never came true,
Blisters on his hands from pulling on the rope,
Broken mops and brooms from cleaning up his hope,
The kid had to adjust to his lowered routines,
But you can’t to used to the silence behind the scenes,
His ability was shrinking instead of rising tall,
You can never “break a leg” if you never get the chance to fall.
