A beautifully written conceit poem, describing my life so far, at the age of 14.
The curtain opened fourteen years ago.
Ever since, my life's been a stage.
It's been home to Broadway's biggest hits,
And flops that didn't make it past opening night.

I've gone throug countless backdrops and set pieces.
This stage has hosted stars,
And can't act, can't sing, can't dance, wannabees;
More than I would ever care to count.
My stage has been flooded with spotlights and brights,
With blackouts between one act and the next.
My trapdoor has let people make an unexpected exit,
But, all the time, they're just below those glossy boards.

There was that time when the batten fell,
In the middle of one of the most powerful scenes in modern theater.
The critics roared for weeks.

I've had twenty chorus members tapdance on me,
At once.
It took them a week to get rid of every, last scuffmark.

I'll continue to be home to,
Can't stop laughing, blow the roof off the theter, comedies,
And, get out your tissues, dry your teary little eyes, tragedies.
Until the day that curtain closes, one last time.
