A Poem written about my father when he was in the Navy in WWII.
When Dad who
was in the Navy
turned his eyes to
Bob Hope
the many eyes
of many soldiers
smiled back
at him.

He was a man on a
mission from God.
The clairinet Dad
held in his hands
claims a shot in its
case from a grazed
bullet. It never
leaves my memory
as I think of it
as the story was told
to me, years later.

Bob Hope is no longer alive.
Neither is Dad.
As a memory,
I will always remember
the bowels of Dad’s laughter
as Hope did his thing.
The regular guy was
instilled with light and
truth
with the jokes
Dad so readily laughed
at.

Thanks for the Memories, Bob.
