The Money tree by: TK Harvey

"Grampa can't die Zeke" Daisy screeched in that high scairt voice that always reminded Zeke of a rabbit in a snare. "We's too young fer thu well fair," she continued in that voice that annoyed Zeke so much he usually never understood a word.
"Daisy girl, GranPappies old and in a bad way" he said placing his arms on her shoulders and looking into her clear blue eyes. "We kin call thu doc but he done said theys nothing he kin do 'cept comfort him a little."
"Nah Zeke no use in all that" she said calming at his touch. From out of nowhere a plan had begun to form in her uneducated but not so simple mind. "But Zeke" she moaned. How we gonna git by without Grampa's well fair check?"
"I'll jist hafta snare more rabbits and catch more possums" Zeke said, "Damn hounds got too lazy to tree a coon" he said in that defeatist voice that she hated so much. "Sho wish his Pappy had'n whupped him so much" she thought.
"Rabbits n possums ain't a gonna put beans and salt n sugar on the table you blasted fool" screeched Daisy, her temper flairing at his stupidity. Then was immediatly sorry for her outburst seeing the hurt look on Zekes face.
"Rabbits and Squirrels is meat baby" she said smiling as she reverted to her sensible voice. "We needs soap to wash clothes and thu younguns. We need beans, flour, and sugar. How am I gonna bake little Leroy a birthday cake? Little Liza needs shoes fer school. What are we un's gonna do without our money tree Zeke?" Almost reverting to her screeching voice Zeke hated so much. He pushed her to arms length and looked into her face.
Zeke wanted to be mad, that wuz a bad thing calling GranPappy a money tree and him a laying on his death bed."If she wudn't so goshdurn purty" he thought to himself. "We un's will work somethin out Daisy" he said plaintively.
Even though she annoyed and sometimes infuriated him he loved Daisy with all his heart and they had ten younguns to prove it. Daisy also loved Zeke he was so strong and hansome, she had fallen in love with his curly hair and blue eyes the first time she laid eyes on him, but good god he wuz dumb.
She had given up early on him going into town and getting a regular job and the idea that had come to her earlier was beginning to sound more and more sensible.
"Money tree" she thought, "You have to bury a seed to git a money tree."
