This summer, my parents had a garden. I helped. We dumped pumpkin seeds in a row. For weeks, nothing happened. Finally, a small vine popped through the ground. The vines spread across the garden and through the fence. It threatened to overrun Mom's vegetables.
A couple of weeks later, little green balls began to grow. One grew on the other side of the fence, in our neighbor's yard! It grew. And grew. And grew. Granny walked over there and picked it up.
Ooops! The giant pumpkin was too heavy. It fell to the ground and split all the way around. Boy, it made good pumpkin pie.
