A negative commentary on the nature of religious philosophies.
WARNING: The following poem may be offensive to religious viewers. I make no apologies for it's contents, however I do advise readers to refrain from proceeding if they are sensitive to negative perspectives on religion.

Place your bets

It’s not always the stakes, which dictate how people are driven
People know when they play their cards right, all sins are forgiven

Gambling is one such sin, well, at least that's what some say
But not those who placed a few bets, at the horse track today

The sun was shining brightly, there was no indication of strife
What better day to attend the track, and make the bet of your life

Bookies preached their mumbo, the form guide assisting their game
Punters waged bets, stakes rising disproportionately with their brain

Muslim was the first horse's name, a heart like a forged piston
But people were hedging other bets, on the popular hack “Christian”

The odds for these two were fantastic, all of the punters had to agree
Their faithful horses were certain winners, tickets to the bourgeoisie

Their return on investment was assured, or so they thought at the time
But alas, these two animals were flawed, something lacking in their mind

Sure they knew how to run, but it was a jockey that choose their direction
Didn’t know he was corrupt, that he was scheming for his own collection

The bookies preached aloud, promised land awaited all but a few
Logic was brushed a side, reason just a ridiculous rumour untrue

Finally a gun sent a crack through the air, judgement day had arrived
Who would pass the post first, which horse would take the prize?

To a horrified gasp Muslim and Christian fell, just outside the gate
They tripped each other up, don't know who made the mistake

I think it was both of them, because they simply just couldn't see
Blinded by their own blinkers, it caused a terrible catastrophe

The jockeys cracked their whips in horror, vowing to continue the pursuit
Chasing their rightful place, to beat the opposition in an endless dispute

To prove who is the most worthy, to see who deserves the crown
To pass on their addiction, until moral values can no longer be found

So when you reach the finishing post and find you haven't won
If you placed a bet at unbeatable odds, and the horse got done

If it was done like a dinner, and now you are completely certain
Gone is your last dollar, your fortune is now just curtains

And you ask "what did I do", to deserve such a cruel fate
Well, you believed in a falsehood, and were robbed by a fake

You wasted all that time, sacrificed your life for a glorious dream
It was greed and fear, that made you believe a promise unseen

If you're reading this, your race is not over, it's not too late
Get off that race track, and don't worry about that gate

Wager that dollar carefully, leave the punters and bookies behind
Choose love for life not religion, and exercise your own mind
