This is a poem about the celebration at the end of Autumn and the beginning of Winter. I wrote it for a contest here at writeing.com in 2006 Samhein Has Risen From ancient times this rite does come; For living to honor the dead. The first in this “Circle of Life.” To prepare for dark nights ahead. The season to celebrates now! Beginnings and Endings is why! Summer is gone and Winter's nigh While the veil is lifted a while. With Candles Red, Orange and Black The Alter before us, adorned. Pumpkins, Apples, Spice and Wine to Nourish those of us who have mourned. We chant, sing and dance on into the night, The Moon lights the Goddess within us. With desire and delight, the energy spirals; Whilst the Guardians invited, propel us We laugh, talk and feast ‘til morning meets night; While the caldron before us keeps burning Our Troubles and fears, dissolved by the flame While the Wheel of the Year keeps turning. Guardians thanked, the circle closed Candy is left for the fairies; Fire’s put out, guests soon depart Memories linger before us. |
