With untold dread and fear
I recall the scene again,
a living hell on earth
unfolding before my eyes.
The scene sent shivers
down my spine and I
clicked the remote control
to find something less gross
than a rotting corpse left
on the battlefield.
What good is there is knowing
and seeing the wrath of war?
I pray for the living;
the dead have already
had their prayers answered,
leaving the destruction
of man against man.
Raging beasts of hell
circle above and feed
on the eyes of those
that see no more.
Another channel, laughter
springs forth from the set
but I am cold, feeling
the shivers still from
what I have seen before...
Images that seep into mind
and do not go away, I get up;
this is not a night for sleep.
I finish packing the boxes
that will go to the troops
to give them what hope I can,
along with prayers and thanks
for putting their lives
on the line.
