Do we hear the melodies around us? Do we ignore the harmonics in our hearts.
Yes, redbuds sing

But like many gentle loving things,
we ignore their gifts, except in spring.
Yet they, in turn, turn cheek, give shelter.

For through summer's wilt they shade the sun,
when below their heart-shaped leaves we run,
or walk consumed from heat, uncaring.

Basking in the silence of an autumn's eve,
do we listen to their rustling leaves
when curling smoke lays low and fragrant?

Or when seed pods rattle, iced winds howl,
when from winter's blast we hide and scowl,
too late, recall their buds in flower?

Redbuds softly sing to all with ears.
Few the lucky who in stillness hear,
in harmony, their heartstrings humming.
