WDC Poetry Resources

I don’t have to tell any of you how great WDC is--you know, that’s why you’re here. What I’d like to share with you is all the wonderful poetry resources here and how you may want to use them. My hope is you’ll find at least one thing that will help you progress in your poetry journey.

First, before you even read any further you need to verbalize or write down what you want to accomplish, what your goals are—and it may change periodically as you grow and mature as a poet, and that’s okay.

Poetry Information

--Newsletters, especially the poetry one, but the others can give you help with poetry information here and there, also!

Poetry Fellowship

--Groups: https://www.writing.com/main/list_items/item_type/groups A note about groups, just remember that you get what you put in, so be an active member as much as you can. It’s better to be an active member in 1 or 2 groups that a non-existent member in 3 or more (and I speak from experience as both a group member and group leader).

--Discussion boards: https://www.writing.com/main/list_items/item_type/forums

--Connecting with members by reading, rating, and reviewing poetry. Here are some poetry statics to get you started: https://www.writing.com/main/list_items/item_type/statics/sub_type/14500

Poetry Practice

--Prompts: https://www.writing.com/main/prompts

--Contests: I shared The Writer's Cramp last month, so this time I'll share another great contest: "Stormy's poetry newsletter & contestOpen in new Window. [ASR]!

--Campfires: You can find some poetry ones: https://www.writing.com/main/list_items/item_type/campfires

--In/outs: You should be able to find some poetry ones here, too: https://www.writing.com/main/list_items/item_type/inouts

--Your newsfeed: WDC support is always posting prompts and such to stimulate ideas.

A Final Note

Don’t see something that quite fits what you’re looking for? Create your own! Another reason to love this place!

***I'd also love to hear what some of your favorite resources are in each of the areas I mentioned above. Please email or send them as newsletter feedback. Thanks!***

I had a friend who was in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's Disease. I would let her pick the topic and then talk about it. I would put these descriptions into rhyming lines. She and I would laugh and have fun. Her children never knew how she did it but they were proud of her. Now she cannot talk. I am happy that we had this kind of fun together. It helped me as well as her. Writing something is better than nothing. Poems can be fun.

Oh, I love that you did this with her! This touches my heart. What wonderful memories of time with your friend!
