SITE NAVIGATION

Hi everyone! Glad to see you back. This week we're back to site basics again. This is especially for those new members, and those who haven't completely mastered all the ins and outs of navigating the site yet.

This only touches the outer rim. To discover it all, explore.

My Portfolio

You already know this is the place your items are stored, listed and given an ID number. I keep my Port set on private view for my convenience. The menu is readily seen and I can edit quickly.

When the public clicks on your port they automatically see it through the Public View even if you have it set on private view.

I use My Account page as my home page because it keeps me up to date with my favorite forums. Refreshing it shows if new posts were posted, and if any new mail was received.

This is where you change your handle, add to your Bio Block, your highlighted items, and manage your newsletter subscriptions. Almost everything you need to do can be done from Your Account page.

My Favorites.

Are you able to find your way around this site without getting lost? When I first became a member, it took me a week or so to figure out how to put a favorite forum into My Favorites. I thought it was referring to IExplorer Favorites. I laugh now, but it wasn’t funny at the time.

A member told me to click on the fist. Sure enough, it worked! Clicking the fist alongside the author’s name will place that member in your Favorite Author list. Go to the upper right side to find the forum’s fist to add it to your favorites list. These will show on your account page until you remove them.

Item Jumps is one of the most useful tools on the site. You can go anywhere from this link.

Member Tools

When I posted a question on a forum, I didn’t know I had a record of all of My Posts in Member Tools to help me get back to it. I was lost. Adding the forum to your favorites will help too. If you have a technical problem, Support is located in Member Tools for easy access.

"Technical Support Forum"  Open in new Window. by Writing.Com Support Author Icon

Author Tools is where you go to create a new item, and learn more about Writing ML.

My Gift Points

If you would like to thank Anonymous for a gift or for being extra helpful, go to Angel Resources - located in the Gift Point Tools link. Scroll down until you see the forum links. There you will find a couple of 'Thank You, Anonymous' forums.

For full enjoyment of the many things to do on writing.com, ask questions. Every one of us was once a newbie, and we all remember how large the site is.

I had never seen the term "Flash Fiction" before joining this site, but I highly recommend contests featuring this type of short fiction. The scope is manageable, the prompts can be inspiring and posting on the forums is a good way to generate interaction with other members of the community.

What great advice - for newbies AND for those members who could use a reminder.

Knowing the basics of writing well is crucial for any writer. And knowing how to get involved on writing.com is important in producing happy, quality members.

It was a pleasure to read your newsletter!

I agree with your comments on good spelling and good grammar and almost feel that they were written just for me. I would have never become a professional writer without a spell checker to help me. Editors seem to hate poor spelling.

Welcome, Prince Will. I'm not sure I'm clear on your question. Do you want to buy an upgraded account? You can go 'Our Store' link listed in the menu at the top of the screen and follow the instructions there for buying memberships through a credit card (PayPal) or with a money order or check through the mail. You can post up to five items in your free acount right now. If this doesn't answer your question, post it in the Support forum.

Hello,

This is a very helpful newsletter. It is so exiting for one to read a review on his writing, especially if it contains some useful remarks. Thanks, it was great.

I've always loved to write, and giving me a forum for displaying my wares has seemed to open the doors (and windows) to let myself write even more.

There is nothing better than the feeling of finishing that first draft of a story, despite the nagging censor inside that tells you that its not as good as the last one so why bother trying.
Maybe because somewhere in that first draft, once polished, is something just as good and maybe better than the last one you wrote.

Thanks for urging us on and unlocking those stories in us all.

Thanks,

S C Morgan

Thank you all for your comments. They are appreciated by all the editors. If you are commenting on a particular edition, try to include that editor's name in your message so they will be sure to get it. Thanks.
