About This Newsletter

The most difficult novel I have had to write in terms of just getting it done was The Vampire Lestat. It took a year to write.

Letter from the editor

We fool ourselves that we can write that magnificent novel in just a few months, polish it, send it off, then get it published right then and there. Not to crush your optimism but we also have to be realistic. Rome wasn't built in a day.

The past few weeks I've changed my tune and switched from murder and mystery to supernatural, mostly because there is more than enough misery in this world in this day and age. Sometimes, escape is the best option. And with that, I've started watching supernatural shows and reading vampire books.

In a way it opens up worlds of possibilities without an end in sight. That doesn't mean that crime and mystery aren't part of it, but rather that they become a background in your writing. Same with any other genre. The more of them you mix into your writing, the better it is for your story. A way to share more than just murder with others but emotions and connections to something other than a dead end.

Even if you don't finish that novel within a few months or a year, your choice is simple. Your characters must make an impression on your reader in order to make it worth while.

'Til next time!
