About This Newsletter

People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy.
~ Anton Chekhov

It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.
~ Charles Dickens

Letter from the editor

I honestly wish we'd have the type of summer Charles Dickens described in the quote above. Alas, we're dealing with 110 degrees Fahrenheit this entire week and who knows when it will end. On days like this, I can't imagine anyone feels like doing much other than swimming to cool off. Then again, not everyone likes water or knows how to swim believe it or not.

Many people travel during the summer months and it's hard to keep a contest or activity going when so few are around. Then there's me, of course, who runs the biggest and busiest activity ever during the worst time of the year. In my case, it's a schedule as well as a dedication thing, on both sides. The same could be said for your activities.

What if you're the one who's on vacation and out and about? Enjoying your time away from us. Leaving us high and dry. I couldn't blame you.

One thing I know though, vacation time leaves little room for writing but it can give you plenty of time for exploring. New places always create new ideas in your head whether you want them or not. Be it writing or a cool thing for a new activity. What about photography? Art museums? Sightseeing around town? All those can bring on fresh ideas to your world. Not only do you expand your own knowledge, but once you share it with us, no matter which way, we get to learn from you and with you.

This doesn't mean you should go on a month long vacation. No. What would we do without you? I'm talking about a weekend, week maximum, okay, two weeks is my last and final offer. Go exploring. Do something you've never done before, even if it scares you, then come back to us and tell us all about it. We'd love to know what you've planned for your summer!

'Til next time!
