The thing I love about Christmas is the gifts.
No, not receiving them. I love hunting down the perfect gift (while dodging three dads, two grandmas and a scary lady in camouflage) and seeing my loved ones eyes light up with joy when they open up their gift.
I can’t believe I’ve never let my kids in on this merry part of Christmas before now.
This year I tried something different.
I gave them all a budget and they made a list (checked it twice) and we dashed off Saturday in search of the perfect gifts. If we were lucky it would be on sale, too.
We hit the local Dollar Tree and (what luck) we found tons of items within the kid’s budget.
I’ve got to tell you that in spite of fighting for space with over three-dozen other holiday shoppers (in a convenience-store-sized space) we had a blast.
I watched them choose, with such care, who would get what toy/mug/nutcracker. It was almost as much fun as watching them wrap their gifts!
I know that our loved ones will enjoy opening those lopsided, so-loosely-wrapped-we-should-have-used-duct-tape gifts almost as much as I’ll enjoy watching my kids when they give their gifts.
Yep, the thing I love about Christmas is the gifts.

Red,
Your topic of hugs was an excellent choice. How important are they? Here's another example to add to your excellent ones. Some days, Kenzie's Fibromyalgia has her skin so sensitive that any touch, no matter how slight, even through clothing, is excruciatingly painful. It's usually one of her worst days with other aches and pains from the illness as well. I step up to her and put my arms around her but don't touch her. She sees the intent, lays her head on my shoulder, and thanks me for the hug she's needed for hours while I'd been away. Hugs? There's nothing that can match them. Wonderful issue, Red.

Wow, I feel like I've just hugged and kissed all of Writing.com! (My lips feel overexposed, now! ) Feel the love? Anything for the Romance Newsletter readers and my huggable twin, Red Writing Hood <3 A good hug is a healing thing. Hope you finally found the perfect topic for your speech, but more importantly, it sounds like you already have the perfect mate.
I don't know about perfect but it was successful... I earned an A!

Great newsletter! Regarding the male/female POV's on love, I think it's a great idea. I have written some stories in the past from the male POV, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have been told that many of my 'intimate' scenes have a male slant to them, which I find interesting. I do think men see love and intimacy very differently from the way women do.

Thanks for the great story. I suck at writing, but I'm hoping to become better. :) ~ Brook

"hugs had magical qualities" This is why we need to go to church. Walk in and almost everyone has a hug for you. This way we're encouraged when times are hard.

Good stuff. People oftentimes forget just how wonderful a hug can be and how much power it can have to calm a person and make them feel more at ease. Way to extol the virtues of touchy-feely-ness.
