Letter from the editor

To start, I have to look from my own point of view when it comes to this - genre writing. All my life I've craved romance and read books only in that particular genre. Nothing in the world, it seemed, could persuade me to read anything other than that. It didn't interest me. It didn't because I never tried to even consider it. Then, the accidental shove into the Mystery newsletter happened. *Bigsmile*

How do I write articles about a genre which didn't appeal to me at all?!

Fact was, I did enjoy mystery, only foreshadowed by another genre. The thought hadn't crossed my mind until I sat worried in front of a blank screen thinking about what to write. It led me into the alleys and roads I never thought I'd explore and come to enjoy. Books, which sat on my dusty shelves and collected a layer of dust themselves, had been picked up and read. I can't teach and preach if I don't try it myself, right?

Come to find out, I preferred mystery over romance! How in the world could that be? Simple really. All the books I've read contained at least a hint of magic, of the unknown, even a dark side. I liked happy endings but I hadn't been fond of just a romantic book. There had to be some kind of mystery in it in order to hold my attention.

After a while, picking up a book without bothering to read what it was about became a habit. It didn't matter what genre the book had been written in. Can it hold my attention and my interest, that was the right question. With that, I've expanded my reading material and have enjoyed the road I shied away from.

As a writer, your writing, published or unpublished, will be defined by a specific genre. You can't fight against it. What it doesn't mean is, it won't define you and you don't have to settle for writing in a genre specific matter. Same as reading, write what comes to you, and don't worry how others will perceive it.

Mystery is the essence of life as is everything else. Use it to your advantage.

'Til next time!

In regards to my previous newsletter:

Quick-Quill Author Icon wrote:

I think the most challenging to a writer is to create an antagonist that is both good and bad. I don't watch the TV show Lucifer. Its a fantasy that offends me. The fact anyone would create a likeable portrayal of something so evil is offensive. It shows how far the acceptance of evil as good has infiltrated human society.

I've watched the show but didn't like the actors much in it. I know we can't all agree on everything, but I thought the writer had a bit of an interesting view when it came to that particular show. Although, it just didn't sit well with me how the whole plot developed. Evil is an everyday occurrence these days. More so than good. Thanks for being a faithful reader! *Heart*

As for A Christmas Carol St.Ann Author Icon, Marci Missing Everyone Author Icon and all those who got a glimpse of the major mystery in my previous newsletter, I hope you liked the show. *Bigsmile* *Heart*
