Simple Pleasures of Summer

When the weather is nice, many of us would rather be outside enjoying the fresh air and sounds of nature. So it seems computer time becomes limited to social media, answering email or whatever could be accomplished on a cell phone or tablet. But the writing bug is still there...isn't it? Itching and whining like a mosquito, telling you there is something to write and you should find the time to do it.

When you do find time to sit at the computer or open your laptop - like a rainy day or a quiet night, take the time to peruse our contest and activity listings. There are still hosts out there waiting for members to visit their forums and participate. Wouldn't this be a great time to try a new genre, or sketch some flash fiction? Or maybe there is a fun scene you'd like to portray or a character in the back of your mind, just begging to come out and play... Don't leave those contests and activities lingering, stop in and donate, participate, or enter!

Or check out some of the fun interactive stories on the site and add a chapter. Interactives are fun in that you only need to add a quality chapter, you don't have to commit to the whole story, or participate on a certain turn. Even if the topic of the interactive might seem a little off the wall, try stretching your imagination and adding your own twist to the story.

If you're not up to that, perhaps you could take a few moments and help the members currently running contests and activities. Help them tune up their page in preparation for busier times and new rounds. Your suggestions could help them become a top performing contest or a popular activity. So, I'm posting a review challenge below, it's pretty simple and you have until July 14th to email me. Three reviews in a month? Seems easy to me.

This month's question: Do you write while on vacation? Send in your answer below! *Down* Editors love feedback!

Ask & Answer

This month's question: Do you write while on vacation?

Last month's question: How do you stay motivated??

Kay Anderson Author Icon replied: It might be strange, but I get motivated by daydreaming. Sometimes while riding in a car with my family, my mind drifts and I just think of the characters. I get zoned into what is like a movie strip playing in my mind and I see the characters interacting, talking, etc. I either get motivated by this, or I act out the characters and find what should be next through my acting. I know it's weird, but it helps me.

~ Aqua ~ Author Icon answered: I motivate my self to write, joining contests at first forcefully *Laugh* but then gradually I get use to writing and I enjoy it too! One activity I join every summer is "I Write in June-July-August Open in new Window. so that my free time is not wasted in summer and I am also thinking about joining "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUSOpen in new Window. this summer *Smile* Ofcourse, the prizes in the end are a treat too *Bigsmile*

Elisa: Snowman Stik Author Icon says: Believe it or not, crazy deadlines are the number one way for me to stay motivated. This is especially true when I start writing pieces that are in the novelette-novella territory (which I'm finding is my writing happy place). I find it much easier to write 20,000+ words if I have only a month and a half to get it done rather than twice that amount of time. Of course, if you'd asked me this question 5-10 years ago, I'd have answered with seeing how many people are incensed or just don't get the stories I write. My, how things change as I get older.

BIG BAD WOLF is Merry Author Icon admits: Simple, Scotty keeps pressing the Hiperdrive button on my Imagination console, launching me past Warp 1000!
