About This Newsletter

Noticing Newbies Newsletter is geared to help new members get acquainted with Writing.com -- there is so much do and all the features can be overwhelming! Our goal is to help new members make their time here more fun and manageable. Each week we will showcase new authors items (poetry, short story, polls, etc.). Exposure for each member's writing will help bring more rates and reviews for their work, and by bringing more member interaction to the member, that will give them the opportunity to build friendships with other members, as long as they reciprocate reviews and conversation -- remember, it is a two way street.

"There's someone that you haven't already met, go introduce yourself to him or her. Walls and labels can't keep you from the people who are so similar to you in spirit. There's a friendly face behind every door if you pick the right moment to knock. Once you start your wave of creative outreach, it turns into a contagious force. People are waking up and smiling at each other, sharing their dreams without hesitation. This community is worth something."

Letter from the editor

Hi Newbies!

I always look forward to writing to new members. I truly enjoy welcoming people to the site through "Invalid ItemOpen in new Window. and in this newsletter. I will always remember what it was like when I first joined, not knowing anybody; whatever I can do to help is rewarding.

I am going to talk more about overcoming fear and insecurity, which I talked about in last month's edition "Invalid ItemOpen in new Window.. I feel it is also important for you to know, for ALL of us to know, it is essential to write honestly; don't hold back, in fear that people will make fun of you or hate what you write. If you receive nasty reviews, which we all have, simply delete it and move on. Talking about negative reviews is a whole other newsletter.

Worryng about whether people are going to like your writing is not worth your energy...but it is important for you to like your writing. You cannot be a good writer if you hold back. Your writing must be created with your unique voice and vision, not what is expected. The only time you should consider reviews, is when you receive constructive feedback. Now, you may not always like what you hear, but it can be one of the best ways to improve your writing. Listening to constructive feedback can sometimes hurt your ego and heart, but it can help you consider a whole new way of looking at your writing. To be a well-rounded writer, you must grow a thick skin and be willing to learn and grow...we are not perfect and never will be.

Until next time...

Ask & Answer

I'm really happy to see you've highlighted flo2005's Benefits of Reviewing in this newsletter. I think the part about revising ratings is underused and under publicized. Great info to arm newbies with early. Kudos! :)

Wow... this issue has a lot of newbies to boast of!!! I just checked out a few highlighted items, and I especially liked Isa Danton's "The Benefits of Reviewing." I recommend it for reviewers who do not know exactly what's for them to do.
