Hello again everyone, and welcome to this edition of the Spiritual Newsletter! Your SNL editors are, Puditat , Erika , and me, windac.
One short note before I get started: please keep the people of London in your thoughts and prayers, as well as those who are about to experience another hurricane in the Gulf.
Summer is finally here! This is the time for soft, warm breezes; the smell of freshly mown grass, backyard barbecues, weekends spent camping, and simple forays to the beach. I intend to soak up and save every last moment of warmth and sunshine to memory, storing enough away to carry me through those long winter months waiting at the other end of this most delightful of seasons. Yes, I am surely thankful for summer!
This edition has to do with thankfulness and, ultimately, trust. We all have reasons to be thankful, most of which are the day-to-day things we tend to take for granted. This would include our jobs, our homes, the fact that we have food and clothing, our health and our families. These are definitely things to be thankful for and are truly blessings from God. But, there are small and seemingly insignificant events that happen all the time, which should also make us thankful. I'll give an example from my own life that happened just recently.
I live in a small town in the Great Lakes region, right in the heart of a National Forest. It's a beautiful rural area where the nearest Wal-Mart is 45 minutes away. I have never minded being that far removed; it's one of the things I like most about where I live. The point I'm trying to make is that to go most anywhere you must drive several miles to get there. My route to work is a straight shot, 14-mile scenic drive, without so much as a stop sign or traffic light. With the exception of the weekends when the tourists come to play, there are times on the road when deer outnumber cars.
On my way home from work one day my vehicle started jumping up and down wildly and making a loud screeching sound, "EEEEE, EEEEE, EEEEE." I didn't know it then, but the tie rod on the passenger side had gone out. Never having experienced such a thing, and being scared out of my wits, I immediately pulled to the side of the road and called my husband on the cell phone.
Now, one might think I was thankful that I had a cell phone to call for help. Nope! I was thankful that I had just pulled off the highway into town, and that I was only doing 25 miles an hour. To think what might have happened if I had been on the highway doing my usual 62! You see, when the tie rod goes it affects the steering ability of the vehicle. This could have had disastrous results.
Four weeks later it happens again, this time on the driver's side. And again, I've just turned off the highway coming into town. Knowing now what it was I slowly drove the vehicle the remaining two blocks home and promptly gave my husband the wonderful news.
For me, there was absolutely no reason to be upset. On the contrary! I had every reason to be thankful:
1) I was again going slowly and no one was hurt.
2) A new tie rod costs all of $16.00.
3) There was an automotive store that had the part at 5:00 on a Saturday afternoon.
4) My husband is a mechanic!
Later that evening we're discussing all of this and he casually remarks that the wheel bearings will go next. I ask him what that means and he says, "You'll lose a tire." Gee, thanks hon - what a confidence booster!
But this is where the trust comes in. If you trust that the Lord will provide and care for you, the stress level in your life goes down drastically. I've spent far too many years worrying about those things that I had absolutely no control over. I have so many reasons to be thankful and I trust that God watches over me. I give my worries over to Him, knowing that all will be as it should.
If your life is stress-filled and you worry constantly about everything from money to the mere possibility of something bad happening, chances are it's time to make a change. As for me, I take solace in knowing that I am not alone, that I am not an accident, that there is a huge, awesome plan and I am part of it. I am exactly where I am meant to be. And for this I am truly thankful!
Make it a point to give thanks, not only for the big things, but the little ones as well. When I say my prayers in the morning, they almost always begin, "Lord, thank you for another day - another chance." Every evening I like to spend a few moments alone. I stand on the back porch gazing into the eastern sky, listening to the sounds around me, and simply send out a silent, but heartfelt thank you. God has given me so much, it's the very least I can do!
"God's heart is the most sensitive and tender of all.
No act goes unnoticed, no matter how insignificant or small."
- Richard J. Foster -

Wow. Your experiences just reinforce that God does want to speak to us...if we'll only listen.

Wind in My Wings, thank you for sharing your story and for including Puditats' story. Both were very powerful stories of amazing experiences witnessing Divine Presence and guidance. It has rekindled the awareness that I too still need to collect my own experience in the written word.

(((Wind))) Oh, so many hugs! Your examples of God's showing His love to you are beautiful. He has a special way of reaching each person in the exact way that they need, doesn't He. You know, after I wrote that email, I worried that it might sound conceited. I hope that you know I never intended it that way.
May God's blessings rain freshly upon you,
Puditat

I always like reading this news letter. It is usually the newsletter I read first. I am going to write a piece on "The Way God Speaks To Me".

*WOW* What a way to touch your readers! I just got through telling someone who forever talks about "all" they do to praise God- that a relationship between you and God is a very personal thing. Thank you for confirming that. I do believe that you should witness, but when the witnessing becomes more about you than Jesus, then somewhere the whole purpose of worshipping got lost. I have also had my wonderful share of prophetic dreams and moments. There is nothing which can ever come close to the feeling you have when this happens. Thanks so much for sharing your experiences with us. May God always be the center of your circle of life.
