About This Newsletter

Nobody has ever measured, not even poets, how much the human heart can hold. -Zelda Fitzgerald, novelist (1900-1948)

Letter from the editor

Valentine's Day, the day honoring love and romance, is at hand. So, did you plan ahead? Are the sky-writers, chocolates and fabulous flowers destined for delivery? How about the singing telegram?

Expensive gifts are all well and grand, but are you poised with the gift of words?

Hallmark is happy to help you out in that department, but seeing as this is a poetry newsletter and you must have some interest in the romancing of words to evoke emotion, perhaps you've considered personalizing the event and conjuring your own words of love and affection in a keepsake far more valuable and personal than a fancy store bought greeting card?

Especially now when money is a little tight, just a cute little poem concocted uniquely for your sweetie, the kids, and anyone on your list highlighting what makes them so special.

For instance, right now I may write to my honey:

Michael, my Michael,
Do I love you a trifle?
Do I love you enough to stand 'tween you and a rifle?

These questions are silly, the answer a cinch-
I love a thousand one-hundred percent!

Michael, oh Michael.
May I call you my man?
Oh this Valentine's day will you please hold my hand?

(Though one of your hands is missing some digits
And sometimes your brain is missing some widgets)

I'm saying, dear Michael,
I love you, of course,
I'd give you my dog (but never my horse)!

Silly, I know. I just wrote off the top of my head right now (ya think?) to give you the idea. I think he'll get a kick out of it. The real one I'll write will be much more intimate and personal. Dang, now my secret is out, guess I have to live up to it.

The point is, I'm encouraging you to create your own special card for your own special Valentine someone this year. You've still got about a week to go. Make it funny, make it sweet, make it mushy, or make it tweet. Sing a song and make it rhyme, or even-make it pantomime! It's easy to impress your love, cause you've been sent from heav'n above!

Okay, I'm way having too much fun. But Valentine's Day should be fun. So go at it, get creative, get out your crayons and pens, or throw a piece of fancy piece of paper in your printer and spice it up with a fun font, then present it to your love during that romantic hot-air balloon ride you've booked, or maybe at dinner or leave it on their pillow. Just saying.

Oh, and let me know how it goes. *Wink*

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Editor-ship, Quizmo. Great job with your first effort. I've written a few Poetry NLs, poetry being a recent passion of mine, and my resolution is to continue writing poetry and get that chapbook published this year. *Wink*

Thanks Jace! Happy to be here. And I'm looking forward to see your lovely poems in a chapbook later this year. Like I said, 2012 is a magic year!
