Grief and Writing
All websites that connect people over an interest have to battle the reproach to be superficial. There is a feeling that the amount people spend socializing on the internet could be better spent meeting in person. True, to an extent. Through Writing.Com, I have met people from every continent. In person, I have only met a very few, but I do count many people I "only" know by their handle and maybe first name as my peers and feel very lucky to be able to communicate with those creative people. I could never meet that many people sharing my passion for writing by going to a brick and mortar place, not even a library. (Nice and quiet in the library! No discussions, please.)
As we grow together as writers, we also participate in each others lives. Sometimes, we have to say good-bye. Forever. One of the ways to work through grief is to write about it. Recently, Writing.Com's members had to say good-bye to a talented and friendly man. Sticktalker is missed by many. Many members who were close to him are still sending their final greeting via their handles. One member created a forum to say good-bye. Another member used their contest to have a special Sticktalker round.
Commemorating all those Writing.Com members who have died, Writing.Com has the special white case, which is an eternal free account preserving the deceased author's work for all of us to cherish. Check out the White Case Memorial "White Case Memorial" .
Writing is a perfect outlet for emotions. Happiness to sadness and everything in between are reasons to write. Whatever your reason to seek a creative outlet, Writing.Com has an activity or a contest for you.
