To NaNo or not to NaNo
or
To Enter or Not To Enter

Ah, November - a month of insanity where writers all over the world write incessantly, striving to reach that 50k goal! (Don't know what I'm talking about? Visit http://www.nanowrimo.org for info!)

*Quill* The decision to enter NaNo is much like any decision to join a contest or activity. There are a number of things to examine, like making sure you have time to commit to it.

*Quill* You never know until you try! Often people think they won't be able to write 50,000 words in 30 days, so they don't even try. The same can be said about a contest. Sometimes our doubts get the better of us, but you really don't know what you're capable of until you try!

*Quill* For the thrill! There's just something different about entering a contest as opposed to writing for yourself on your own time. There's a thrill in knowing you're writing with other contestants, in creating something that fits a prompt, and in waiting to see if you've won. (Of course, with NaNo, all you have to do to "win" is finish by November 30th!)

*Quill* I'm sure you've heard it said, "Writing is its own reward," and that's definitely true with NaNo. There is no prize for completing the daunting task, except having the knowledge that you've completed it. And trust me, it's very rewarding! *Wink*

Not everyone participates in NaNo, though, and that's where Writing.Com Contests and Activities come into play! There are lots of them going on all year long! Take the opportunity to challenge yourself, and you'll find that you're capable of great writing!

*Star* Remember to use the "Contest" genre for contests themselves, and "Contest Entry" for the entries! *Wink*

Always keep on writing!
